How an idea became a game
Sometimes ideas emerge in the most unusual moments. The story of Ocobii Memory is one such tale β born from passion, expertise, and the deep desire to bring people together.
...when I woke up with a game idea in my head. An idea that wouldn't let me go. An idea that united all my experiences and my knowledge.
What happened next can only be described as flow β that magical state where thoughts flow, ideas take shape, and everything just clicks. Together with Claude and ChatGPT, I developed the complete concept of Ocobii Memory in just one week.
The Vision Crew was born: Toffi, Lino, Ella, Milo, and Olli β each with their unique visual ability and personality.
The game mechanics took shape: 48 cards, modular sets, emotions and visual perception united in one game.
The details were refined: point systems, variants, learning goals β everything came together like puzzle pieces.
It was pure magic. And it felt right.
With Ocobii Memory, I want to make a small contribution to making the world a little more human. That people communicate with each other again. That we keep our eyes on our fellow human beings. That we play, laugh, learn together β and grow closer in the process.
Ocobii is more than a game. It's an invitation to togetherness.
My name is Stefanie, and I bring an unusual combination of specializations:
My journey began as an optician, then master optician, and finally I earned my Master's degree in Vision Science & Business (Optometry). Early on, I became deeply involved with vision therapy β a method for improving binocular vision, applied for asthenopic complaints or for children with academic difficulties, concentration problems, headaches, or reading and writing difficulties.
But my thirst for knowledge went further: As a "Heilpraktiker" (alternative medicine practitioner), I delved deeply into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) β particularly Tuina and ear acupuncture.
My areas of expertise are vision therapy, vision & posture, and especially pediatric optometry. As a lecturer for the Scientific Association for Optics and Optometry (WVAO), I teach in the fields of pediatric optometry and binocular vision.
Besides the memory game, I also developed the Ocobii software β a management tool for vision therapy. The name "Ocobii" has a special meaning: It derives from the Japanese word "Yorokobi", which means "joy". Because vision therapy should bring joy to children! Additionally, "Ocobii" contains "Oc" for Oculus (eye) and "Bi" for binocular β a fantasy word that perfectly describes what it's all about: joy in seeing! And this is exactly the joy I want to convey with the game as well.
All my training β from optometry through TCM to alternative medicine β flowed into the game development. The Five Elements of TCM, each associated with specific emotions, inspired the characters and their emotional facets. Visual perception from optometry became the heart of the game concept.
Without these diverse perspectives, I could never have developed Ocobii in this form, and certainly not at this speed.
2025 was a year of great challenges for me. A serious diagnosis forced me to pause and reset priorities. But at the same time, all my training gave me tools to deal with this situation.
But every crisis also holds an opportunity! This forced break was like a catalyst for my creativity and gave birth to Ocobii Memory within one week.
...and brought me an incredible amount of joy! For this, I'm infinitely grateful. π
Thank you for taking the time to learn the story behind Ocobii. I hope this game finds its way and reaches as many people as possible β not just as a memory game, but as a bridge between people, as an invitation to shared experiences, as a moment of connection.
Let's make the world a little more human together! π
